Blood Donation

Any eligible donor can donate blood 365 days, 8 am to 8 pm at blood centre

Raktadoot Seva (Blood Courier Service)

This is a doorstep blood service to avoid troubles and worries of patient’s relatives whenever blood is required. A team of 10 persons is deputed for this task with proper monitoring system and training of blood handling and transportation.

Platelet Donation

Blood Centre has facility to prepare 'Single Donor Platelet' (SDP). Team of almost 400 voluntary platelet donors regularly donates platelets and we take care for its availability every day. Time to donate Platelets is 9 am to & 7 pm, every day.

Blood Donor Test Report

Every blood donor can get his / her blood test report after blood donation. For that, donors are supposed to send a request mail from their personal email ID on [email protected] after 10 days of their donation or they can come at blood centre carrying any Govt. I Card with prior appointment.

Blood Group confirmation

Facility of Blood group confirmation and antibody screening to the hospitals and the pathology labs in the region

Blood Component Seperation By Advanced Method

Components are separated from donors’ blood by using leucoreduction. Harmful white cells (leucocytes) from donors’ blood are removed. Leucoreduced blood components are safer and more effective. These are done on hi-tech centrifuges and automated component extractors. Plasma (liquid part of blood) is frozen rapidly by snap freezer. Preserves maximum clotting factors for patients’ benefit.

Cross Matching

Cross-matching is a test done before a blood transfusion to determine if the donor's blood is compatible with the blood of an intended recipient. It is a kind of demonstration of what will happen if the particular unit of red cells is transfused to the patient. Cross Matching takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. Red cell units without cross matching can be given in dire emergency in certain situations. Such decisions are taken by the treating doctors in conjunction with the blood bank.

It's essentially a trial transfusion done in blood bank laboratory to see exactly how patient’s blood will react with donor blood. OR What will happen after transfusing the unit of red cells to the patient, is seen in the blood bank laboratory by performing a cross matching test. Only if this cross matching test shows compatible results, then the red cell unit is issued to the patient. However, few patients might face minor adverse effects of transfusion of blood components. These can occur in spite of compatibility testing being done correctly.

Only giving same group red cells is not sufficiently safe. They should be necessarily crossmatch compatible. Patient’s blood is mixed with donor’s blood and incubated at 37 degrees C to simulate patient’s body conditions. Some reagents are used in this procedure.

Blood Irradiation

Blood Centre has the facility to irradiate the blood components, which is recommended for some patients having very low immunity like fetus or a new born baby or then transplant or cancer patients. It is important to irradiate blood to protect patients from Transfusion Associated Graft versus Host Disease (TA-GvHD). In TA-GvHD, white cells from transfused blood may attack the recipient’s immune system and can become fatal. This can happen when recipient’s immunity is low.

Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT)

All collected blood is being tested by NAT to avoid transmissions of deadly infections like HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C etc. This is the safest technology all over the world. It test detects the infectious virus directly by multiplying the nucleic acid. It detects diseases earlier than the routine test called ELISA. NAT is globally the best technology available to screen donor’s blood for patient’s safety. ELISA is mandatory test and NAT is an additional layer of safety done by Jankalyan to ensure better safety of blood. Both NAT and irradiation facilities are provided to the hospitals and other blood centres 24/7 on regular basis.

Pathology Laboratory

Jankalyan Raktapedhi Trust has the facility of pathology lab in the same premises. It is known as 'Bharat Vikas Parishad Pathology Laboratory', provides pathology services on charitable basis.

Therapeutic Phlebotomy (TPH)

Important for the patients of polycythemia, blood centre provides facility of bloodletting through the hospitals.

Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE)

This procedure is done in hospital ICUs on request for the patients commonly of GBS, myasthenia gravis
